Welcome to:
The world as I saw it in the 1960's. Myself, as well as thousands of young men wore the uniform. Some served time in the country of Viet Nam. Some in the surrounding countries. And others, including myself, were in Japan, Turkey, or other country in support of what was going on in Southeast Asia or monitoring countries that the U.S. monitored. In fact, we became a member of a group that Americans loved to hate. However, we became a member of that group that people now know as "baby-boomers." We were born during or shortly after WWII; but little did our fathers know that their offspring would eventually fight in a war when we got of age as they did in WWI; and let's not forget the wars that followed!
Not totally surprising is the fact that most of us could identify as being: A Soldier First. Literally speaking, being a soldier was the first real thing we did as an adult. Sure, we had odd jobs, worked after a high school job, or even worked on a farm; but, being a soldier in basic training to earn that paycheck was what we cherished.
Where we were to go after basic training did not really give us much thought until that training (basic) was about over. The main thing was to get that paycheck and most often send it home or just hang on to it until basic training was over!
It all goes to show that much about our lives was competing with us becoming a soldier. Our drill sargeants really wanted the military to win that battle of wits, and not our desires to just not be there!

Of course, many historical eras are memorable, but of those; the 1960's continue to get buzz and recognition. As for me, it is no less true. In fact, I think the 60's are the most memorable era in American History.
As a brief overview, I see many things that validate it as being unique; to include:
1. The songs we know as being popular during the era presented a subliminal message.
2. Many events had political overtones that related to racial unrest.
3. The war in Viet Nam lingered for years; which eventually became controversial more than people expected.
4. My "doings" included a full range of 'going from a kid fresh from a rural area, to a life in what was thought to be challenging, as I grew older.
5. The 60's era continues to be spoken of as "sure, I remember it," to some; and, sure, "tell me about it" to others.
Having lived through it all, I give my opinion on the songs of the 60's! As I listen to them, I have a better understanding of what was the meaning of many of the songs that were popular during the 60's. Most specifically, songs were a way to express one's feelings. Some of those being:
1. Love, boy-girl friend, and dating.
2. Our love of mingling in and about beaches.
3. Cars, whether we sang about their capabilities, such as "going fast", racing, or just generally speaking of or just gazing at cars.
4. During the mid-60's, we began to hear songs that related to war and our love or hate for it.
5. Our attire was expressed in song, as well.
Each year, beginning with 1960, I give my thoughts on each. My final year presented is 1970. I offer my thinking on 1970 and how things are beginning to change; to include national and international events, songs, and in general, the thinking of Americans.

My life before the 60's!
This is where my journey began. Little did I know I would be wearing combat boots at the age of 18!
In fact, A soldier first was very real in my ancesteral line. Just a overview include the following as being a soldier before they really started their adult life:
a. My great-great grandfather, a slave who was an assistant for an army officer.\
b. My father's son, by his first wife, who became a prominent figure in the state of Kentucky and the city of Cadiz.
c. My father, who was in WWII for about 3 months, then, a WW1 was ended.
d. That half brother had 3 sons who become soldiers.
e. Including myself, our father had 4 sons, of which 3 volunteered for the army during the Viet Nam era. The other son became a prison correctional officer.
Getting to know about life and what I did was truly eventful.I am glad you're here to be a part of my story.
This image if of my father in his home town. Other veteran pictures are situated along the streets as well.
